The Water Shapes Us
Jul 13th, 2018

As an artist, Heather Stockton is constantly looking for and finding inspiration that lives in the details in her surroundings; the details that are overlooked by the general audience. Through the use of color and scale, she works to bring these details that were once lost or unknown to the viewer's immediate attention in hopes that they will feel encouraged to "scratch beneath the surface" for themselves. Recently, being blessed with the ability to spend a copious amount of time on the river, she found herself mesmerized by the various bodies of color she would see along the riverbed. As she worked to interpret what she was seeing, "The Water Shapes Us" developed itself as a statement of resilience under extreme pressure and harmony among chaos; a simple reminder that it is our unique differences that make the whole complete. The Water Shapes Us show will be on display in the ZACC’s main gallery all of July. If you are unable to attend the gallery opening, we are open Monday through Friday from 11 am to 6 pm, and works can be viewed during these hours.
