Cross Country Skiing

Montana’s Glacier Country is wonderland for cross-country skiing, with millions of acres of wilderness and an endless list of must-see places. Plus, you’ll find guiding services, outfitters and rental shops, with all the equipment, gear and maps you’ll need.

For starters, Glacier National Park is open in winter, and there’s no better way to experience its grandeur than on skis. Right outside the park, you’ll also find groomed trails at Essex, some of them lighted. The Rattlesnake Wilderness and Pattee Canyon are just five minutes from downtown Missoula. Both offer groomed trails that are ideal for skiers of all abilities. The area around Whitefish is another prime cross-country destination with groomed trails at the Glacier Nordic Center in town, and an extensive trail system at Big Mountain Resort.
