SEELEY-SWAN VaLLeY
THE WORLD IS divided into two kinds of people — those
who love rivers, and those who can think of nothing finer than a calm
lake in the early morning. The Seeley-Swan Valley is definitely for lake
people.
Pinched between the east slope of the Mission Mountains
and the west slope of the Swan Range, the Seeley-Swan is a series of pristine
mountain lakes among dense stands of ponderosa pine, Douglas fir and larch. We’ll
state the obvious — the valley is an outdoor enthusiast’s
paradise for boating, waterskiing, canoeing, swimming, fishing, birding,
or just snoozing in a hammock.
It’s also a major staging area for pack trips into
the Bob Marshall Wilderness, one of the largest wilderness areas in the
Lower 48. In addition to boat rentals, lakeside cabins and honest lake
towns, this thriving valley is home to dozens of outfitters, guest ranches
and rustic lodges. There’s even a beautiful nine-hole golf course.
The fun continues in winter with snowmobiling on more than
350 miles of groomed trails, cross-country skiing to frozen Morrell Falls,
or a romantic sleigh ride through the woods. Cocoa anyone?
