Guests check in at the West Glacier Corral behind the Rawhide Trading Post at 9:00 in the morning. While we go over important safety information with you, our experienced guides will be packing up your gear in preparation for our overnight adventure. We will spend the day exploring the forest, enjoying a hearty lunch on the trail and taking in the beauty of Glacier. In the late afternoon, we'll arrive at our Outfitter Camp, complete with wall tents and a fire pit. You'll have time to get settled before indulging in a traditional cowboy dinner with all the trimmings (dinners consist of a Montana steak cooked over open flame, baked beans, green salad, corn on the cob and a roll - chicken, veggie burger or fish fillet are available if you do not want steak). You'll cap off the night, fireside, gazing at more stars than you ever knew existed. The next morning, we'll have our fill of hearty Montana breakfast (consisting of eggs, bacon, toast with Huckleberry jam) before hitting the trail for a half day morning ride arriving back to the Corral just before noon.

At noon, your fly fishing guide will pick you up at the Corral and bring you to Great Northern Resort for a light lunch before you depart on your exciting fly fishing trip. This custom fishing trip enables Great Northern Guides to offer a variety of opportunities to meet the needs of each angler. Steelhead, an anadromous fish, is an ocean-going form of rainbow trout and cousin to the Salmon. These migratory fish hatch in freshwater, head to the ocean as juveniles and in 1-3 years grow to adulthood, then, return to the place of their birth to spawn; quite an astounding feat for this resolute trout and just as amazing to catch with a fly rod on Idaho's wild and unspoiled Salmon River.

Dubbed, "The River of No Return," the Salmon River, over 400 miles long, is the longest free-flowing river within one state in the lower 48 and virtually a recreation mecca for every fly fisher. Rich in the history of the West, this area was a winter home to the Nez Perce, the haunt of early Chinese placer miners, and abode to nineteenth century homesteaders and outlaws. Today, it is home to a variety of migratory birds, waterfowl and animals. You never know what you may spot along it's shores around the bend.

From the ranch, you will drive to North Fork, Idaho, a scenic one hour and fifteen minute trip to meet experienced guides of Rawhide Outfitters. Adorned in all its fall grandeur, fishing for the mighty steelhead on the Salmon River promises to be an exhilarating experience for any fly fisher with a 6 -18 lb. fish caught on the end of a fly rod. Craig Barrett, owner and avid fly fisherman, will lead this four-day outdoor sporting event. Activities include, two days of guided fly fishing and a day trip to Hamilton Trap Club, where trap shooting and five-stand are sure to test your 'deadeye'.
