Disc Golfing in Glacier Country

Disc golf, (formally called frisbee golf or folf) is a popular pastime around here. This game uses the rules of golf to fling discs into posts (or baskets) around a course on the green. With wooded and mountainous disc golf courses throughout Glacier Country, it’s a pretty fun and unique way to play outside, especially with friends and family.

If you’ve never played before, or you didn’t pack your discs, no worries. Contact the local Parks & Recreation department, and they’ll let you use a disc and even give you some pointers.

Here’s a list of disc golf courses in our region:

Blackhawk

The course at Seeley-Swan High School winds its way among ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, and larch trees near Morrell Creek in Seeley Lake. The first nine holes navigate through gentle, level ground, while holes 10-18 demand dedication with a gradual ascent following a challenging uphill throw.

Blue Mountain

Just south of Missoula, this course spreads across a large expanse on the face of Blue Mountain, so be prepared for a little hiking. The first half of the course is mostly open with occasional tree obstacles, while the second half travels through wooded ravines.

Buffalo Bobs

This short but challenging, par 3, heavily wooded course has unique, handcrafted baskets on the front nine and features various object targets, such as a keg and propane canisters, adding to its unconventional charm. Despite having only nine pads, the course offers a total of 18 baskets and objects.

Darby

This hidden gem, 18-hole course on the edge of Darby along the Bitterroot River boasts a phenomenal layout with some great par 4 holes.

Flathead Valley Community College

This fun little campus course is laid out in a beautiful setting with very forgiving pars and layout and a good mix of distance.

Fort Missoula Winter Course

New in 2023, keep your game up over the winter on this course that is perfect for beginners. Please note that Fort Missoula Park sets up this 18-hole course on park grounds during the winter months on mostly-paved pathways, but any non-disc-golf recreators who might be using the park facilities during this time always have the right of way.

Kooky Noosa

An intermediate course with uniquely designed, moderate to short distance par 3 and 4 holes, Kooky Noosa requires some extensive hiking.
Libby Dam Visitor Center, Libby

Lawrence Park

This18-hole course provides play without much elevation and a walking path for a majority of the holes. The back nine offers wooded holes with interesting lines, new baskets and nice variety of shot shapes.

Pattee Canyon

This 18-hole technical course takes you among trees and provides a nice challenge for players of all levels. It's also one of the most popular courses in the Missoula Valley.

Salish Kootenai College

The Salish Kootenai College course offers 20 holes spread out on the campus of the scenic Salish Kootenai College located within the Flathead Reservation. The course is mostly 200’-300’ holes with a mixture of open and wooded holes and some elevation changes.

Smith Lake

Located on the north end of Whitefish Lake, this technical 27-hole, tightly wooded course has some elevation changes and requires short, accurate throws.

Snowbowl

Just north of Missoula, this 18-hole course takes players across rough terrain and provides beautiful views of the Missoula Valley.

Spiritwood

This private course offers public access with 22 baskets on its wooded terrain with lots of shade, tight lines and scenic views. $1 donation to play.

Timber Beast

This beautiful, challenging course has tight trees and ace runs, with 18 baskets (all par 3) on a crushed stone course.

Treewell Acres

This 18-hole basket course takes players through mostly flat and heavily wooded terrain.

Whitefish Assembly of God

Whitefish Assembly Disc Golf is a free 9-hole course winding through 20 wooded acres. Open anytime except Sundays before noon, Wednesdays after 5 p.m. and occasional special events.

Wilderness Club

This meticulously maintained, expertly designed course offers 18 challenging holes, each presenting multiple playing options with open hillside of the front 9 and a densely wooded back 9 with frequent elevation changes.
